Cylindrical Panoramic Cameras – From Basic Design to Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper reviews major steps in designing, producing and applying cylindrical panoramic cameras. Basically such a camera is characterized by rotating linear sensors capturing one image column at a time. Extremely high numbers of pixels per line allow capturing of super-high resolution panoramic images. These can be used for stereo visualisation and stereo reconstruction, as will be discussed in this paper. 1 Centre for Image Technology and Robotics, Tamaki Campus, Building 731, The University of Auckland, Morrin Road, Glen Innes, Auckland 1005, New Zealand. 2 German Aerospace Center DLR, Germany, Institute of Space Sensor Technology and Planetary Exploration, Rutherfordstrasse 2, D-12484 Berlin You are granted permission for the non-commercial reproduction, distribution, display, and performance of this technical report in any format, BUT this permission is only for a period of 45 (forty-five) days from the most recent time that you verified that this technical report is still available from the CITR Tamaki web site under terms that include this permission. Panoramic cameras for 3D computation
In this paper, we review design and principles of existing panoramic cameras. Panoramic cameras which enable 3D computation in reasonable time for real time applications are emphasized. We classify panoramic cameras w.r.t. their construction, field of view, and existence of a single projective center. Using this classification we state a utility of the central catadioptric panoramic cameras. We...
متن کاملGeometric Modelling and Calibration of a High Resolution Panoramic Camera
In photogrammetric applications the use of a digital panoramic camera with 360° field of view may provide an interesting alternative to conventional methods. As the image geometry does not obey a central perspective it was necessary to establish a geometric model for digital panoramic cameras. This model was tested using a camera prototype produced by KST (Kamera & System Technik). Several mech...
متن کاملClose Range Photogrammetric Network Design for Panoramic Cameras by Heuristic Simulation
Linear array CCD-based panoramic cameras are being used also in measurement applications. The elegant image acquisition mode and the high information content of those images make them suitable candidates for quantitative image analysis. The best possible accuracy is acquired by a suitable sensor model and following the concept of network design. In our previous investigations we designed a sens...
متن کاملFast generation of cylindrical panoramic views from free-hand video sequences
We report on a fast algorithm for the generation of cylindrical panoramic views from hand-held video sequences. Due to its high processing speed the algorithm is suited for hardware implementation into next generation videoand photo cameras. This enables the user to easily create immersive views from simple pan shots of variable quality. The individual processing steps within the algorithm are ...
متن کاملDevelopment and Application of an Extended Geometric Model for High Resolution Panoramic Cameras
Digital panoramic photography has become a popular tool to record landscapes, city squares or indoor scenes in a single image with a full 360° view. In photogrammetric applications, a digital panoramic camera may present an interesting alternative to conventional image acquisition techniques such as large format film or plate based cameras. Advantages of such a camera are their very high resolu...
